First, an honest note on the six weeks
Six weeks is a realistic planning window for reaching page one on a focused set of relevant keywords in a moderately competitive niche, when the listing converts well and stock holds. It is a target, not a promise. Very competitive head keywords can take months, and no checklist can guarantee a ranking. What a good plan does is remove the avoidable reasons launches fail.
Before launch: get retail-ready
Do all of this before the first unit is available for sale:
- Keyword list: five to ten priority keywords you can realistically compete for, plus a wider supporting list.
- Listing copy: title, bullets and backend terms built around those keywords and written for humans.
- Full image set: main image, infographics, lifestyle images and a video.
- A+ Content and Brand Story submitted and approved. This needs Brand Registry.
- Pricing plan: launch price, coupon and the price you intend to settle at.
- Break-even ACOS calculated, and a launch advertising budget agreed.
- Campaigns built and paused, ready to switch on.
- Inventory: enough stock for at least eight to ten weeks of expected launch sales, with the next order already planned.
- Compliance: safety documents, labels and category approvals in place.
Weeks 1 and 2: start selling and collecting reviews
- Enrol in Amazon Vine if eligible.
- Switch on exact match Sponsored Products campaigns for your priority keywords, with bids high enough to win impressions.
- Run an automatic campaign at low bids for discovery.
- Activate the launch coupon.
- Check daily that the listing is live, buyable, indexed for the main keywords and showing all images.
- Use the Request a Review button on every eligible order.
Weeks 3 and 4: learn and widen
- Review search term reports. Move converting terms into exact match and add negatives for clear waste.
- Add Sponsored Brands and a Sponsored Brands Video ad once a few reviews are in.
- Add product targeting on competitor listings where your offer is clearly stronger.
- Read the first reviews and customer questions, and update images or bullets to address anything unclear.
- Confirm stock cover and place the reorder if sales are on plan.
Weeks 5 and 6: tighten and stabilise
- Compare keyword ranks with the baseline. Keep pushing terms that are climbing, and reduce spend on terms that are not moving despite strong bids.
- Start reducing the coupon in steps while watching conversion rate.
- Lower bids gradually on keywords where you now rank well organically.
- Set growth-stage ACOS targets for the next 90 days.
The numbers to watch
- Click-through rate: a low CTR on relevant keywords usually means a main image, price or review-count problem.
- Conversion rate (unit session percentage): if traffic arrives but does not buy, look at images, price, reviews and A+ Content.
- Organic rank on priority keywords, checked weekly.
- Review count and rating.
- ACOS and TACoS, judged against the launch plan, not against a mature product.
- Days of stock remaining.
What can go wrong
- Running out of stock: the most common launch killer. Slow down ads before you sell out completely.
- Launching with an incomplete listing and fixing it later, after the early traffic has gone.
- Targeting keywords that are too broad for a new product to win.
- Buying reviews or using rank manipulation services. These break Amazon policy and can end the account.
- Stopping ads suddenly at the end of the launch, instead of stepping down.

Frequently asked questions
How many reviews does a new product need before advertising?
You can advertise from day one, but conversion is usually weaker with no reviews. Many sellers keep budgets modest until Vine and early buyers deliver the first handful, then increase spend.
Should I launch at a low price?
A modest introductory price or coupon can help early conversion. Very deep discounts can attract the wrong buyers and make the later price rise painful. Plan the path back to full price in advance.
What if my product is not ranking after six weeks?
Check conversion rate first. If the listing converts worse than competitors, more ad spend will not fix it. Then check whether the keywords are realistic for a new listing, and whether stock or price changed during the period.
