Amazon SEO and listing optimization for search and for shoppers

A listing has two readers: Amazon’s search system, which decides if you appear, and the shopper, who decides whether to buy. We optimize for both, starting with real keyword data.

What listing optimization includes

  • Keyword research: search terms grouped by relevance and intent, using Brand Analytics and third-party tools.
  • Title: the most important terms first, written to read naturally and to meet Amazon’s title rules for your category.
  • Bullet points: benefits tied to features, answering the questions shoppers actually ask.
  • Description and A+ Content: supporting detail, comparison and brand story.
  • Backend search terms and attributes: complete, non-repetitive and within Amazon’s byte limits.
  • Images: a review of the main image and gallery, with a brief for product photography or infographics where needed.

Why this matters more now

Amazon search increasingly tries to understand what a product is and who it is for, not only which words appear in the title. Shoppers also ask questions through Amazon’s AI shopping assistant (Rufus, renamed Alexa for Shopping in the US in May 2026), which draws on listing content, attributes and reviews. Listings that describe the product clearly and completely, including use cases, materials, sizes and compatibility, are easier for both systems to match to the right shopper. Keyword stuffing does the opposite: it hurts readability and can break Amazon’s title policy.

How we work

  1. Baseline: we record current sessions, conversion rate and keyword ranks, so changes can be measured.
  2. Research and draft: keywords, new copy and an image brief, sent to you for approval.
  3. Publish and index check: we confirm the listing is live and indexed for the target terms.
  4. Measure: where your account is eligible, we use Manage Your Experiments to split test titles, images and A+ Content.

What to expect

Well-optimized listings usually improve click-through and conversion, which in turn supports ranking. The size of the improvement depends on where the listing started, and we cannot promise a specific position. We report the before and after numbers so you can judge the result yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an Amazon title be?

Amazon’s general limit is 200 characters including spaces, and some categories set shorter limits. In most cases a clear title that leads with brand, product type and the key differentiator performs better than one that uses every available character.

How many keywords should a listing target?

A listing can be indexed for hundreds of terms, but it should be written around a small group of high-relevance keywords. Remaining terms belong in bullets, backend search terms and attributes.

Will changing my listing hurt my current ranking?

Careful changes that keep your main keywords in place rarely cause lasting drops. We record a baseline first and change high-traffic listings in stages to limit risk.
